Klamath Riverkeeper works to restore water quality and fisheries throughout the Klamath Basin through policy advocacy, community organizing, leadership development, public education, and litigation. Klamath Riverkeeper’s three campaigns are the: (1) Un-Dam the Klamath Campaign that seeks removal of four Klamath River dams by 2020; (2) Water For Rivers Campaign that upholds laws to ensure that the Klamath River and its tributaries have enough water for fish and recreation; and (3) Clean Water for the Klamath Campaign that seeks to eliminate sources of, and prevent human exposure to, water pollution.

Community Organizers

The goal of these positions is to ensure that communities most impacted by river management decisions can influence decision-makers and policy. These are short-term (3-6 month), part-time positions with the possibility of long-term positions depending upon funding and job performance. Positions are based in the upper Klamath Basin, lower Klamath Basin, and/or coastal towns of/between Eureka and Klamath, CA. Must have valid driver license and reliable transportation.

Primary duties include:

  • Organize, co-organize and/or present at public education events, leadership trainings, issue-specific actions/events, rallies, fundraisers, and fun events such as rafting/camping weekends for members and/or allies.
  • Build new relationships across communities in the Klamath Basin and mobilize those communities to engage and influence decision-makers and policy.
  • Table at fairs, festivals & conferences.
  • Co-create new ways to ensure that people impacted by river management decisions can influence decision-makers and policy.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience working successfully with native and non-native communities.
  • Ability to cultivate relationships with likely and unlikely allies, including policymakers, stakeholders and the public.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication.
  • Demonstrated success organizing events.
  • MS Office Suite.
  • Commitment to environmental and social justice.

Beneficial Qualifications

  • Knowledge of policy issues surrounding Klamath Basin dams, diversions, pollution, and/or pipelines.
  • Salsa, WordPress, InDesign, Lightroom, HTML & Photoshop.
  • Research, writing, editing & fact checking.
  • Media relations.
  • Fundraising & budget management.

Administrative Coordinator / Membership Associate

This part-time position (up to 60 hours/month) keeps the office and membership running and provides program support. Position can be based in Orleans, CA; Klamath Falls, OR; or Chiloquin, OR.

Primary duties include:

  • Data entry (member and supporter info).
  • Send membership gifts & thank you letters.
  • Print & mail checks.
  • Maintain/update/pay vendor accounts (e. phone, internet, software, CRM, insurance policies)
  • Scan and upload mail.
  • Maintain office supply inventory and office equipment.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience using MS Word and Excel (sort contact information, eliminate duplicates, mail merge, etc).
  • Commitment to environmental and social justice.

Beneficial Qualifications

  • HTML, WordPress, InDesign, Photoshop, LightRoom & Salsa.
  • Research, writing, editing & fact checking.

Online Campaigner

This part-time position (15-30 hours/week) can be based remotely, but ideally in or near the Klamath River basin (example: Klamath Falls, Chiloquin or Ashland Oregon – Orleans, Happy Camp or Arcata California).

Primary duties include:

  • Maintain and update website to maximize stakeholder engagement.
  • Design action alerts and petitions using Salsa CRM software.
  • Ensure synchronicity of all online channels: website, CRM platform, social-media, blogs, donation processing & e-mail.
  • Website server management.

Required Qualifications

  • Proficient in HTML, CSS, WordPress and Salsa’s CRM platform.
  • Basic image and copy editing.
  • Experience with online analytics and social media trends.
  • Commitment to environmental and social justice.

Beneficial Qualifications

  • Knowledge of policy issues surrounding Klamath Basin dams, diversions, pollution, and/or pipelines.
  • Experience developing content for issue-based advocacy or fundraising campaigns.

Graphic Designer

This part time on-call position makes us look good with snazzy visuals and layout.

Primary duties include:

  • Design print and digital collateral including website and social media images.
  • Produce membership gifts (bottles, t-shirts, bumper stickers, Klamath Basin map, etc.)

Required Qualifications

  • Great eye for design.
  • InDesign & PhotoShop (LightRoom beneficial)
  • Experience with data visualization and infographics.

Clean Water Campaigner

The part time Clean Water Campaigner would identify Clean Water Act violations and employ strategies to eliminate the sources of pollution into the Klamath River.

Primary duties include:

  • Policy advocacy including direct engagement with decision-makers, coordinating with allies, drafting comment letters, etc.
  • Campaigner will be responsible for raising grant funds for this position.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated advocacy experience engaging in administrative, legislative and legal avenues to eliminate sources of pollution.
  • Understanding of the Clean Water Act and other federal and state (OR & CA) statutes relevant to river and species protection.
  • Experience writing grants and grant reports for non-profit advocacy organizations, or equivalent writing expertise.
